Let’s be real for a second—time feels weird when you’re a fan of something epic. You blink, and suddenly your favorite story is old enough to vote! So, in 2026, just how old is Hunter x Hunter? Grab your fishing rod and your Greed Island card set—we’re about to do some fun math.
The Birthday of a Legend
Hunter x Hunter first debuted in 1998 in Weekly Shōnen Jump. That makes it a certified ‘90s kid, just like Tamagotchis and frosted tips. By 2026, that means our beloved series is 28 years old. Yes, it’s almost thirty—and honestly, it’s aging better than most of us.
Think about it: in 1998, Gon and Killua were just cute little sprites in Togashi’s notebook. Now? They’re practically millennials in anime years. And the series itself? It’s older than many of its own fans reading this article today. Wild, right?

Why Age Is Just a Number (And a Fun One)
You might be thinking, “Okay, but why should I care about a number?” Because, my friend, this age makes Hunter x Hunter a time capsule of pure creative stubbornness. It launched alongside Pokémon and One Piece, yet it still feels fresher than most new anime.
At 28, the series has survived hiatuses, a boat arc that lasted a decade, and more writer’s block than a novelist’s worst nightmare. That’s not aging—that’s legendary resilience. Hunter x Hunter is the cool older cousin who still shows up to family dinner with wild stories, even if they’re late.

So, Is 28 “Old” in Anime Years?
In human years, 28 is prime “getting your life together” territory. In anime years, it’s practically a philosopher-king. Compare it to other shonen giants: Dragon Ball is 42, Naruto is 27, and One Piece is 29. So Hunter x Hunter is right in the sweet spot—middle-aged by media standards, but still young enough to party.
The real kicker? The story itself isn’t done. At 28, it’s still evolving, still teasing new arcs, and still keeping us on the edge of our seats. That’s not a midlife crisis—that’s a masterclass in pacing. You can be both old and full of surprises.
What This Means for You, Dear Reader
Here’s the fun part: knowing that Hunter x Hunter is 28 in 2026 gives you perspective. It’s been around long enough to have multiple generations fall in love with it. Your older sibling might have watched it on Toonami. You might have binged it on Crunchyroll. And your future kids? They’ll probably watch a VR reboot of the Chimera Ant arc. That’s legacy.

It also means you have permission to take your time. If Togashi can spend years crafting a single chapter, you can take your sweet time figuring out your own hobbies, goals, or even just what to eat for dinner. Hunter x Hunter taught us that the journey is the prize—and at 28, that lesson is only more valuable.
Let’s Make Life More Fun With This
So, how can this random age fact make your day better? Easy. Next time you feel behind in life—like you haven’t “arrived” yet—remember that Gon didn’t become a Hunter overnight. He took seasons, arcs, and a lot of Nen training. At 28, Hunter x Hunter is still unfinished, and that’s beautiful.

Use the series’ age as a conversation starter. Challenge a friend: “Hey, did you know our favorite anime is almost 30? Let’s rewatch the Yorknew City arc to celebrate.” Or just smirk to yourself because you’re part of a fandom that has literally outlasted multiple fashion trends and two decades of internet memes.
The Uplifting Note You Deserve
Here’s the truth: Hunter x Hunter being 28 years old in 2026 isn’t a sign of obsolescence. It’s proof that great stories never expire. They age like a fine wine—or like Kurapika’s anger management issues. And if a story about a boy looking for his dad can still make us cry, laugh, and theorize after three decades, then your own passions can last just as long.
So go ahead. Re-read that favorite volume. Introduce a friend to Hisoka’s creepy brilliance. And smile knowing that you’re part of something that’s 28 years young and still hunting for more. The journey isn’t over—it’s just getting started. Now, go make your own adventure legendary. You’ve got time.
